Download latest version of Scratch for Linux, scratch-1.3.1_0.9-4_i386.deb for Ubuntu 8.10.
From Command Line Interface
Install the package
sudo dpkg -i scratch-1.3.1_0.9-4_i386.deb
So, if you need to work with sound in Scratch, you should install those packages
sudo apt-get install alsa-oss libasound2-plugins
